The nanofilm, a further developed type of microfilm that after tests has proven to be able to withstand storage in a cold store for at least 500 years. The film will be stored together with the seed in the Seed Vault. The film can be read digitally, but also visually with a standard magnifying glass. Film strips with information about the seed contained in each individual box are attached to the boxes, and larger film rolls with information about all the seeds in the Seed Vault are stored separately.
The Norwegian company Piql is the producer of the Nano film. This film is also used for securing documents, works of art, etc. Several countries and institutions have already secured valuable documents in this way.
